The Fund's Story

In 2002, Mass Energy convened a group of organizations to design a meaningful way that people could contribute to development of local renewable energy. New England GreenStart was born. It allows people to choose renewable power for their electricity, creating a source of funding for new projects.

But at the time, there was only one community-scale wind project in all of Massachusetts & Rhode Island. So, we launched the New England Wind Fund to raise money for small, local wind development. People could make charitable contributions of any amount to the Fund, and we would spend the money on local wind development within 10 years.

15 years and nearly 2 dozen turbines later, the Fund is still going strong--and with your support, we can do even more in years to come.
