Currents Winter 2012 Newsletter
Mass Energy held its annual meeting in Boston on November 9th, 2011. Keynote Speaker Mark Sylvia, the Commissioner of the Department of Energy Resources, spoke about the advancements that Massachusetts has made, leading it to become the most energy efficient state in the country! Mass Energy also granted awards to several outstanding groups:
• Advocacy Award: Mass. Oil Heat & Propane Energy Efficiency Coalition (Conservation Services Group, Environment Northeast, and Mass. Oil Heat Council) for proposing an oil heat efficiency program.
• Private Sector Leadership Award: AGreen Energy, LLC and Jordan Dairy Farms for installing an anaerobic digester at the Jordan Farm in Rutland, MA (i.e. cow power!).
• Private Sector Leadership Award: Berkshire East Ski Resort for installing a 900 kW wind turbine.
• Public Sector Leadership Award: Lynn Water and Sewer Commission for installing a 600 kW wind turbine.
This event was held at the Boston Seaport Hotel because of its impressive green resume! Among many commitments, the Seaport sources its food from its own on-site garden and other local gardens, boasts a 43% recycling rate, and matches electricity used on the guest floors with renewable energy. And—our favorite— the Seaport offers a Green Wedding package that includes a match from Mass Energy’s New England Wind program! All in all, we’re pleased with another successful annual meeting celebrated with members and partners who have become great friends. Be sure to join us next year, when Mass Energy turns 30! Wow!
