Oil Price Check - Jul 02, 2009
During the heating season, the state Department of Energy Resources conducts heating oil price surveys. During the last twenty-six years, Mass Energy prices have been 15-30 cents per gallon less than the average retail price charged by full-service dealers.
Search for prices since 2004.
Note that our price difference is greatest in the months that you use the most oil.
The following prices are the average daily prices charged by oil dealers contracted with the Massachusetts Energy Consumers Alliance. Mass Energy's prices differ from dealer to dealer. Contracts between Mass Energy and its thirty dealers see price variations based upon their service location and the different wholesalers pricing.

Current market commentary: The long awaited peak in the market appears to have been reached. Bulls that are focused on the price of the dollar and the success of equity markets however are not giving up. Look for prices to seesaw a bit in the immediate future.
Normal seasonal trend: Over the past 30 years June peak if they hadn't already in May and then typically sees prices decline to an early July bottom. Last year however we were in a run up that peaked on 4th of July ($4.65!) and then went down like a stone from that point. Signs are this year may be a mini-repeat.
Season to date: Our dealers report that the "average" Mass Energy member took 710 gallons at a total average cost of $2.16 per gallon through April. May and June promise to add another 40 gallons or so to our "average" member total. The state DOER survey estimated the average heating oil consumer paid $2.56 per gallon, so Mass Energy members saved an average of 40 cents per gallon last heating season! This is the best savings per gallon and percentage-wise in at least 10 years and perhaps the best per gallon savings ever as we suggest our members save from 10-30 cents over the course of the heating season. Of course with such a WIDE range in price over the course of the heating season, individual members may find their average was much higher OR lower. We just heard from another Worcester member who cut his consumption 25% and his cost was $1.99 per gallon even with a recent delivery well over $2.00...
BioHeat: At this point our B-20 product has jumped to over $2.50 per gallon losing touch a bit with recent survey levels. Our bioheat members paid an average of $2.53 per gallon for the heating season, keeping their cost in line with the state survey estimate for regular heating oil members.
At Mass Energy, our daily pricing follows the market with our fixed margin program allowing for competitive prices every day.
